5 Must-Have Summer Beauty Staples for Black Women Over 40

Undoubtedly, summer is a much beloved season. However, the heat from the sun as well as the weather’s dryness or humidity can cause a lot of damage to your skin during summer.

As a woman over 40, you might be worried because you want to maintain your skin’s glow irrespective of the weather — hence, the need for the perfect beauty staples or products to use.

As a Black woman, I understand that it can be challenging to decide on beauty staples because of your skin type. You're probably thinking, “What is the best anti-aging treatment for Black women during the summer?”

And so, here are 5 must-have summer beauty staples for Black women over 40 just like you.

Face Cleanser

Coming back home after a long day spent in and out the sun, the first thing you want to do is to wash your face with a facial cleanser.

Having been outdoors in the sun with your face exposed to so much environmental debris as well as accumulated sweat due to the heat, leaving your face without washing or cleansing properly can easily cause skin deterioration or reaction.

To avoid such occurrences, try to get a facial cleanser that would be even with your dark skin tone. You will also want to use your cleanser when you wake up in the morning before using any other beauty staples.

Toners and Exfoliants

For every other must-have beauty staple to work effectively on your skin, you need to apply a toner. Using a toner helps reduce pores on your skin, making it much easier for other products to penetrate deeper into your skin.

As you may know, many beauty products contain their helpful chemicals. And so, a toner will also help adjust your skin’s PH after cleansing, preparing it for whichever products you may use afterwards.

As part of your night routine, ensure to use an exfoliant as they help remove dead skin cells. They also help to brighten your skin color, improve its texture, and reduce hyperpigmentation.

When choosing exfoliants as a Black woman, opt for the ones that contain alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs). These acids are not too harsh for your skin tone.

Toners and exfoliants are two of the best anti-aging treatments for Black women.

Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Serums

Summer heat can dry out your skin in a moment. However, using a hyaluronic acid serum helps lock in moisture and reduce dryness. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that attracts and retains moisture. With this, my friend, you can worry less about dry skin during summer.

If you're thinking of how to get glowing skin in your 40s, then I highly recommend you add a Vitamin C serum to your skin care routine. They promote collagen synthesis, which in turn improves your skin elasticity and reduces wrinkling.

Vitamin C serums are just the perfect antioxidant to brighten your skin. They help to even out your skin tone and protect it against environmental stressors and UV damage, which can cause premature aging.

Sunscreen

Being Black doesn't mean you can't apply sunscreens. In fact, you need it more during the summer season. Before stepping out your doors into the scorching sun, you need an extra layering on your face to avoid direct damages caused by ultraviolet rays (UV).

Sunscreen protects your face from sun burns which could cause uneven dark circles around your side chin. But as a Black woman in her 40s, you need to be careful as to which sunscreen product to use — you need to check out for one that aligns with your skin tone, and there are many sunscreens on the market today especially made for our beautiful skins.

In addition, never forget to apply the sunscreen properly. For it to be effective, ensure to rub it evenly around your facial region in small quantities. Applying it in excess could make you sweat profusely due to the sun actually melting it.

Facial and Body Moisturizers

Facial and body moisturizer is another must-have summer skincare product for aging women over 40. There is a need to keep your skin hydrated during the hot summer weather, and this is where the use of facial and body moisturizer comes in.

When the intensity of the sun is high, moisturizers provide a long lasting hydration to the body. They help to protect and repair your skin's natural barrier. This way, you are less exposed to UV rays that could result in skin damage.

Finally, ensure to be consistent while using these beauty enhancement products outlined above in order to get optimal results.

As a Black woman over 40, with all these in your beauty custody, your skin will glow continuously for a long time, denying the laws of aging.
