Gratefulness Does the Heart Good

Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.

~ William Arthur Ward

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines gratitude as “a feeling of appreciation or thanks.”

Gratitude is the gateway to a lifted spirit and a forward-thinking attitude regardless of what you might face. A gratitude mindset is a decision despite what happens in your life.

According to Search Articles | UCLA Health, in an article entitled "Health Benefits of Gratitude," gratitude seems to reduce symptoms of depression, as people with a grateful mindset report higher satisfaction with life and strong social relationships.

Life is a gift that can be full of challenges and the unexpected. Cultivating a heart posture of thankfulness helps deal with the twists and turns of life a little better. Gratefulness helps appreciate the now by embracing the moment and not looking so far ahead. It is learning to take one day and step at a time. A heart posture of gratefulness is like a prescription given to aid in what might be hurting you, and the more you take it the better you feel.

Sit down and pull out your journal, write down the things you have been blessed to accomplish or have, and visually see how much you have to be grateful for. Sometimes in the fast-paced movement of life, we fail to realize how blessed we are, so this requires us to slow down and reflect on how far we’ve come and what we have. In these moments we realize things aren’t as bad as they seem.

Gratefulness does the heart good. The more you practice it, the more it becomes a part of who you are.
