5 Ingredient Gruyere Popovers
Popovers have a magical appeal. They are light and fluffy and perfect for any holiday. Many of us have memories of the thrill of eating popovers dripping in butter. This is an easy bread recipe guaranteed to turn out beautifully puffed popovers with golden crowns and custardy interiors that make a great addition to any meal.
ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole milk, at room temperature
3 large eggs, at room temperature
2 ounces Gruyere cheese grated
½ tsp salt
instructions
Position a rack on the lowest rung of the oven and preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Butter or spray a popover pan. If you do not have a popover pan you can use ¾ cup glass custard cups. If using custard cups place them in a pan leaving space between each cup. You want to give the popovers ample air circulation.
Pour all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Make sure there are no lumps.
To bake the popovers, pour 1/3 cup batter into each popover cup. Bake without opening the door for 25 minutes. Turn the temperature down to 350 degrees and bake for another 15 minutes. The popovers should look nicely brown and crisp on the outside.
Serve immediately. Enjoy!
