Women Wednesday with Jordan Coleman

"Whatever you do, do it well and do it continuously."

Meet Jordan Coleman, a woman empowering change through advocacy, innovation, and solitude.

Jordan, an Indianapolis native, graduated from Warren Central High School before earning her Bachelor’s in Sociology from IUPUI and her Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in Non-Profit Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Throughout her career, Jordan has led public affairs and development efforts for both profit and non-profit entities, fostering community relationships, developing volunteer portfolios, and generating over $1 million in annual fundraising. However, her journey to finding her seat and voice at the table was met with opposition and denial of upward mobility.

This experience led her to launch A Seat at the Table in 2018, an organization dedicated to helping women of color challenge oppressive systems and heal from trauma. A Seat at the Table has impacted thousands of women through programming in Indiana and North Carolina, as Jordan remains committed to transforming systems that stifle or restrict women of color.

Jordan draws inspiration from her father, who taught her the importance of using her voice to stand up against injustice. She recalls moments from her childhood when they encountered mistreatment and discrimination, and her father's determination to address it. His powerful example instilled in Jordan the belief in the potency of her own voice whenever she faces adversity.

In addition to her professional achievements, Jordan has been nominated for Junior Achievement’s Indy’s Best and Brightest and the Center for Leadership Development’s Up and Coming Achiever’s Award. She has served on committees and boards for organizations such as March of Dimes, Indiana Children’s Bureau, Junior Achievement, and Black Fathers Rock. Recently, she successfully completed the intensive Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women program.

Beyond her career and philanthropic work, Jordan is a devoted wife and mother who finds joy in spending quality time with her family and exploring new destinations during her leisure moments. Despite her outwardly active role in advocating for change, she is also inherently introverted. She finds solace in quiet moments and embraces the tranquility of solitude as a means of replenishment.
