Why You Should Prioritize Your Friendships This Year

As an adult, you may find that your primary relationships in life are either family or coworkers. Over time, you may find that friendships outside of those settings can fade quickly as you get busy with life.

You may think you don't have time for friendships due to work or family responsibilities, but this year should be the one where you start prioritizing your friendships. Here are a few reasons why.

 your friends will be honest

Your friendships are built on trust, which means you can trust your pals to be brutally honest with you. They'll tell you how it is, full of love, and be there to help you through any situation. Thoughtful communication can improve your relationships with other people and help you appreciate the honesty they surround you with.

Your friends may have also gone through the same things you're dealing with. Maybe you have a teenager preparing to go off to college in a few years, or perhaps you're struggling with your spouse. Your friends with that experience will be able to offer you advice and help you through the situation as best as they can.

hanging out decreases stress

At home, things start to pile up. You may feel overwhelmed by your responsibilities and want a break for a bit. Spending time with your friends is a great way to catch up while decreasing your stress. Many, if not most, moms experience some degree of sadness and anxiety, and having friends who understand the struggle can have many benefits. You feel less lonely when you spend time with people you love, meaning that it might be a welcome break from the stressors of real life. Reach out to your friends — they might need the stress relief, too.

you can motivate one another to grow

The greatest thing about having such good friends is that you can motivate each other to pick up good habits. For example, you and your friends may start walking regularly so you have time to catch up with one another while also getting some activity in. A daily walk out in nature can boost your immune system while also possibly soothing any digestive issues you have. When you have someone to walk with, it starts to seem like less of a challenge.

you can improve your mental health

When you take a mental health day, you could make a to-do list with tasks that make you feel more like yourself while also ensuring you feel like you accomplished something. Meeting up with friends could be an excellent item to pencil in, as spending quality time with some of your favorite people should help you feel more down to earth.

 nurture all your relationships well

In today's fast-paced world, it might seem easy to take your friendships for granted. However, the people who have stood with you through thick and thin deserve a little of your attention. Since it can benefit both you and your friends, you should make efforts to reach out and do something fun in your platonic relationships. This year can be one about reconnecting with people who encourage and uplift you outside the home. All you need to do is reach out to them.
