Nicole Scherzinger’s Long Awaited Broadway Debut

Nicole Scherzinger is making her grand debut on Broadway, starring in a new version of Sunset Boulevard by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Sunset Boulevard tells the story about a silent-film star who has fallen from the spotlight and hopes desperately to make a comeback to her stardom, but Nicole has added a twist to the story with a love interest.

The actress and singer’s version of the play includes a tragic love story between the main character, Norma Desmond and a young unsuccessful screenwriter. The production begins previewing on Broadway September 28, 2024, and debuted just last year in London at the Savoy Theatre.

Nicole is 46 and says that she’s dreamed of being on Broadway her whole life, and now after her lead singing role in the Pussycat Dolls and her individual music career that dream is finally coming true.

The Hawaiian native has many talents including singing, songwriting, acting, and dancing. For seven years, Nicole was the lead singer in the female pop group, The Pussycat Dolls, one of the world's best selling female groups with over 55 million records sold internationally. Although she's most commonly known for her lead singing role for The Pussycat Dolls, Nicole has always had a passion for acting and she began acting at the age of 14.

“It has taken a long time, but it feels really special because I get to do it as Norma Desmond,” said Nicole in a Vogue interview. She also discussed how she related to Norma in the sense that as a music artist, after launching her solo career which didn’t gain much traction, she felt dismissed.

“I connected to her feeling of loneliness. The industry is difficult like that. I have always struggled with loneliness. I have definitely struggled with abandonment. In this version, Norma is finally getting a chance to tell her story, and it’s an honest story—a human story of struggle. Who doesn’t want to be loved?” said Nicole.
