Lessons From the Living Room

Living Room

Healthy living means maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and this starts at home. A healthy lifestyle is important for everyone. Home is a lot of things these days — where we work, rest, play and gather. And because we’re spending more time than ever within our own walls having a healthy home is essential for overall wellness. Here are some budget-friendly solutions for creating and keeping a healthy home!

declutter your home

Decluttering increases self-worth, creates healthy habits, and boosts productivity. A clean and tidy home can also improve sleep, enhance mood, and promote relaxation. Too much clutter collects dust, animal dander, and mold, which in turn wreaks havoc on our physical health, especially if you have asthma or allergies. Clutter can also disrupt our mental health by causing stress. Decluttering is the first step to a healthy living space.

design mindfully

Decorating your space, big or small, can be a form of self-care. When it comes to designing our space, even just having one specific area as our designated calm space is a great place to start. Whether it’s your bedroom or a nook in your living room, situate things in a way that make you feel like you can retreat there. Consider items like blankets, paint on the wall, artwork, and anything in particular that brings you joy. We tend to feel better when our homes are decorated and well-cared for.

use a diffuser, essential oils or burn soy candles

Scented candles are inexpensive yet smell so nice, but they’re not great for our air quality (in and outdoors). It’s worth the extra cost to invest in soy-based candles that are scented with essential or natural oils. The investment is a wonderful way to keep your home smelling great while still keeping it healthy.

Two out of every five homes have factors that contribute to illness, injury, and even death. The design and decor of your living space can greatly impact the overall atmosphere and aesthetic of your entire house. Knowing that we spend 90% of our lives indoors, makes it even more important to make these small but significant changes toward a more sustainable and healthier home.
