5 Makeup Application Tips You Need to Try
When it comes to makeup, we can question ourselves on why certain products do not look good on our skin. Sometimes, it is all in the application! The next time you apply your makeup, here are some application tips and tricks to try.
start off with a fresh clean base
A good base is crucial to apply our makeup products. Before you start applying your makeup, wash your face to remove any dirt and oils. Then follow up with your favorite moisturizer.
Pro tip: Moisturizer is still essential whether you have dry or oily skin!
consider dermaplaning your face
Dermaplaning is a type of exfoliation that removes the natural peach fuzz on your face and dead skin cells. This smoothing process allows makeup to lay better on your skin. Dermaplaning also has other benefits like brightening and evening skin tone, reducing the appearance of acne scars, and helping with fewer lines and wrinkles. You can dermaplane with any dermaplaning facial razor found at the drugstore.
Pro tip: Keep the razor at a 45 degree angle and shave downwards with light pressure
picking the best primer
The purpose of primer is to help with the longevity of your makeup. Primers help with any skin concern like large pores, oily skin, dry skin, uneven skin or dull skin. It is important to note that sometimes certain primers can conflict with foundation. If you use a silicone based primer with a water based foundation, it could cause your foundation to separate or pill.
Pro tip: Try to use water based foundations with water based primers, and use silicone based foundations with silicone primers.
brush vs. sponge
Using a brush or a sponge is a personal preference. Using a dense foundation brush can actually help your face products give more coverage, while using a sponge can help thin out your products and give a more seamless blend. For either tool, do stippling motions rather than swiping or dragging.
Pro tip: If you are using a beauty blender sponge make sure it is damp for best results!
warm up the foundation on the back of your hand first
Some liquid foundations work best if you warm them up first. To warm up a foundation, pump some on the back of your hand, and swirl it with your finger. Then dot the foundation all over your face. The warmth of your fingers helps in activating the product and gives a more natural application.
Pro tip: Try blending out your under eye concealer with your fingertips!
