Charge Up Campaign Launches Mental Health Initiative for Georgia’s Breast Cancer Warriors & Survivors
Atlanta, GA| February 4, 2025
Charge Up Campaign, Inc is proud to announce the launch of the Charge Up Mental Health Initiative (CUMHI), a program aimed at supporting the mental health of breast cancer warriors and survivors across Georgia. The program will launch Tuesday, 4 February in honor of World Cancer Day. CUMHI is partially funded by a generous grant award from the Georgia Breast Cancer Alliance, formerly known as It’s The Journey.
Through CUMHI, eligible participants will receive access to up to six therapy sessions with licensed mental health professionals. A vetted network of providers offers both in-person and virtual counseling options, ensuring that individuals across Georgia can access the support they need. The Charge Up Campaign will cover the standard co-pay (up to $65) for each session, removing financial barriers to care.
Founder Charessa Sawyer shares, “Charge Up Campaign was born from my heart as both a caregiver and a daughter. I’ve witnessed the silent struggles of cancer warriors and caregivers — the sleepless nights, the emotional weight, and the hidden pain.”
Over the years, Charge Up Campaign has supported its community through various programs and initiatives that have provided care packages, financial support, and health and wellness education. The organization changed its primary focus to mental health in 2023.
Charessa, who is also a licensed mental health professional (LMSW), says the change in focus to mental health is important because “mental health is the foundation of true healing, and I’m committed to ensuring no one feels alone in their battle.”
Executive Director Lakeitha Rousseau, BSN, RN is also a nine-year breast cancer survivor. Working in the oncology field and from her own testament, she says the program is needed to “help survivors as well as their caregivers sift through the different emotions that hit them after a cancer diagnosis! CUMI is needed so that they have the mental capacity to endure whatever treatment that's necessary to come out victorious in the end!”
