CHARGE UP CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE FOR GEORGIA’S BREAST CANCER WARRIORS AND SURVIVORS
Atlanta, GA | January 27, 2025 — Charge Up Campaign, Inc is excited to announce the launch of the Charge Up Mental Health Initiative (CUMHI), a program designed to support the mental health of breast cancer warriors and survivors across Georgia. This initiative will officially launch on Tuesday, February 4, in recognition of World Cancer Day. CUMHI is partially funded by a generous grant from the Georgia Breast Cancer Alliance, formerly known as It’s The Journey.
What CUMHI Offers
Through CUMHI, eligible participants will have access to up to six therapy sessions with licensed mental health professionals. The program features a vetted network of providers offering both in-person and virtual counseling options, ensuring accessibility for individuals throughout Georgia. The Charge Up Campaign will cover the standard co-pay (up to $65) for each session, eliminating financial barriers to care.
Charessa Sawyer
Founder and President
Founder Charessa Sawyer, who is also a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), explained the inspiration behind this initiative:
“Charge Up Campaign was born from my heart as both a caregiver and a daughter. I’ve witnessed the silent struggles of cancer warriors and caregivers—the sleepless nights, the emotional weight, and the hidden pain.”
Since its inception, Charge Up Campaign has provided care packages, financial support, and health and wellness education to its community. In 2023, the organization shifted its primary focus to mental health.
“Mental health is the foundation of true healing,” Sawyer emphasized. “I’m committed to ensuring no one feels alone in their battle.”
Executive Director Lakeitha Rousseau, a BSN, RN, and nine-year breast cancer survivor, highlighted the program’s significance:
“CUMHI will help survivors and caregivers navigate the emotional toll that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Mental health support is essential to endure the journey and come out victorious.”
